Team Derby Fund

Supporting and developing individual talent is a key priority for Team Derby. We recognise the amount of time, effort, and resources that are invested into achieving sporting excellence. We want to give you the best chance of achieving your goals and make sure we support you wherever we can.

The Team Derby Fund was set up in 2009 to provide financial support towards the costs of travel, transport, competition costs or lifestyle support. In return we ask that you agree to represent the University in British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) competition, where applicable, and promote the Team Derby initiative at a national and international level.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Athletes who are eligible to apply and who may be entitled for funding support must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be an existing student of the University of Derby
  • You would normally participate in a sport recognised by UK Sport and currently be performing at a National or International Level, or be able to demonstrate strong evidence that you have the potential to achieve this standard with 12 month of application.
  • You must be available to represent Team Derby in the relevant sport within the British Universities and Colleges Sport Championships
  • You should be enthusiastically committed to representing Team Derby and supporting student sport
  • You must be prepared to fulfil an ambassadorial roe for Team Derby at Open Days
  • You must show a willingness to take part in photo opportunities and media activities
  • You must wear Team Derby clothing when representing the University of Derby both prior to, during, and after competitions, where appropriate.

What the Athlete receives

The total funding available for the Team Derby Fund is £2000, for sports person meeting the criteria there is a maximum of £400 for those competing at International Level and £200 for those competing at a National Level.

International level

To achieve the full £400 award the applicant must meet the criteria listed below:

1.First time applicant or Previous applicant but who has supported at least one Team Derby/University sport related event
2.Sport recognised by UK Sport and BUCS
3.International Level Athlete
4.Signed and dated reference on headed paper from governing body or coach
5.All sections of the form completed and correct.

National Level

To achieve the full £200 award the applicant must meet the criteria listed below:

1.First time applicant or previous applicant but who has supported at least one Team Derby/University sport related event
2.The sport must be recognised by UK Sport
3.National Level Athlete
4.Signed and dated reference on headed paper from governing body or coach

Monitoring the Individual Athlete Performance:

The sports performer must inform the Sports Development Manager of the individual's results and performance at any events funded by the Team Derby Fund.

Previous successful applicants are not guaranteed to receive further awards and a sports performer can only receive a maximum of one national and one international award per annum.

Funding will normally be provided retrospectively of any event or performance. It is the sports performers' responsibility to ensure all receipts and payment evidence is maintained and submitted in order to receive the funding.

3.Formal funding agreement signed
Terms and Conditions

If the sport is not recognised by BUCS but meets all the above the maximum award will be 50% of funding available

If the sport is not recognised by UK Sport or BUCS the maximum award is £100

If the applicant has failed to correctly evidence all criteria then no award will be given though they may two weeks to resubmit any missing evidence

If the applicant has failed to meet the requirements of attending at least one Team Derby or sport related promotion event or activity an award may be made but not released until the applicant meets the requirement
